Words can still hurt. They can do so much damage. Knowing where you're from, what you've seen in your life, you of all people should know that.

And it hurts me, hearing it. I don't want you to call yourself that. I don't want you to see yourself as that.

You can do anything you want. It's a whole new life you have. You have as much right as everyone else to build yourself a new future. It doesn't mean you should forget what you've gone through, or what you've done, but you don't have to be that person for the rest of your days.

Good. That's a start.

Not really. We all get scared sometimes.

What are you scared of, then?

Losing, I guess.

I've never won anything that mattered.

[ He just doesn't need to think about waking up the next morning and not having Erik there with him. This sure isn't helping. ]

Any other artistic plans on your horizon?

[ It's the kind of conversation that will really lead nowhere, in his honest opinion. They both know that either of them could disappear the next day, but Jim chooses to approach it the same way he approaches dying: could happen tomorrow, but he can't live his whole life with that fear hovering over him. Or else he's never going to be happy, or enjoy anything.

There's nothing either of them can really do to stop it. But he can at least promise that for as long as it's within his control, then he's not leaving Erik's side. ]

Well. [ He smiles a little, appreciating the change of subject. ] I do like photography. And there's always cooking, I'm getting pretty good at that.
