Erik Stevens (born N'Jadaka) was a former American black-ops soldier of Wakandan origin through his father, Prince N'Jobu. His savagery while serving in the U.S. black-ops unit, earned him the nickname Killmonger. Years after T'Chaka had killed his father for betraying Wakanda, Killmonger then planned to forcibly dethrone T'Challa in order to accomplish his father's plan to seize control of the world using all of Wakanda's Vibranium technology and stop the oppression of people of African descent all across the world. Manipulating and then killing Ulysses Klaue to gain access to their city, Killmonger seemingly killed T'Challa during their ritual combat and took the throne. Just before Killmonger unleashed his plans, the Black Panther returned and challenged Killmonger, eventually defeating and killing him during their final battle.
Strengths: Driven: While the circumstances that shaped Erik are tragic, there’s no denying that Erik is a passionate, driven creature. He doesn’t balk, never flinches from difficult situations, wholeheartedly throwing himself against adversity and never taking no for an answer. It’s this strength that had him go to MIT and even become an elite ghost operative for the US military. By honing his body and mind towards a singular goal, Erik remains one of the most dangerous people in the world, despite having no special powers or abilities. Everything he is comes from this overwhelming need to change the world and that everything is enough to overwhelm even the most powerful of people. Because he lives his life on the extreme, Erik is very methodical even when he throws all his feelings and actions behind his one purpose. He immediately sees people as potential allies or tools, depending on what gets him closer to his targets. Manipulative: Erik is adept at blending in. He knows how to play his cards and has the ability to switch his aura from demure and unthreatening to terrifying and unwavering in the next. Most of this skill was earned on the battlefield and among politicians, as Erik needed to be able to perform assassinations without anyone even realizing he was there. Chameleonic in nature, Erik is very good at making people see various sides of himself without ever letting them know who he truly is. From his body language to the very diction he uses in order to get people to dismiss him as well as capture their attention, Erik uses every single asset at his disposal in achieve his own ends. Idealistic: Despite how twisted they became later on, no one can deny that Erik’s motivations had several grains of truth in them. Lost to the system and abandoned by his family, Erik saw the suffering of other black people as well as suffering on his own. He watched and noticed this for years, heartsore at this treatment before making up his mind to wrest control from Wakanda and starting his own revolution. Outspoken, bold and empowered, Erik truly believes that the world needs to change, that the system needs to changed from within and from the outside. All people are created equal and should be treated as such. And while Erik carries a great deal of anger for the mistreatment his people have suffered, he still believes in that truth. In this singular ideal. And he will do whatever it takes to make it a reality. Weaknesses: Ruthless: Erik isn’t one to hold himself back. After his father’s death and his subsequent suffering at the hands of the system, watching people like himself pushed down further and further, Erik had had enough. He threw himself into bettering himself, especially in the art of martial arts and warfare. For all his vaunted ideals and a passionate desire to see black people be treated as equals, Erik cares little for those around him. He even subjects himself to the same thinking. Everyone is disposal, a means to an end and Erik does nothing to disguise or hide that fact. And in a way, Erik too is disposal and he’s well aware of it. Life holds no meaning unless it is given to a cause. Rage: To say Erik is angry is a bit of an understatement. Even though Erik is used and adapted to a life of loss and pain and expects it to remain that way for the rest of his life, his father’s death remains a driving force of anger and fury, especially since it was his own uncle who killed him and left him there, leaving Erik behind as an outcast. And as he grew older, he saw more and more pain until his anger could not be contained. He blamed T’Challa, Wakanda, the world. Everything and everyone was subject to this. In a way, even himself. Erik’s rage controls himself, consumes him. Even when presented with opportunities to break away from this path, Erik cannot even begin to visualize what that would look like. He’s completely trapped by this poisonous anger that any attempt to help or even teach him of other possibilities tends to fall on deaf ears. Narrow-minded: For Erik, everything outside of his perennial vision of justice and freedom is redundant. Erik operates on an almost superhuman, even mechanical efficiency. There’s no pleasure or joy in his actions, though he can exude charm and a careless aura to fool the people around him. He channels every ounce of his power, feeling and body into his cause and refuses to look past it. Even though the cause itself is large, Erik is unable to see the multiple ways to achieve it, only knowing the ways of violence and conquering and applying to the world he sees. Myopic and jaded, Erik struggles to look beyond his world view, even while he gains new knowledge and information. Fatal Flaw: "Your heart is so full of hatred.” Erik is trapped. He wants to dream, but his anger brings him back to reality. He wants to imagine a world where he is no longer outcast, abandoned, undeserved but he cannot picture it. He wants freedom and equality for all people, one tribe but he only knows the ways that he was taught, through brutality and subjugation. And Erik knows that. He’s too intelligent to miss the signs in himself, but he can see no way out. That is his fatal flaw. As much as he struggles, he is trapped in his cycle of rage and hate, despite the nobility of his goals. And so, Erik cannot see a way out and he knows he made himself to be this way. He is still lost. Driving Force: "I've waited my whole life for this. The world's going to start over.” Erik’s driving force is easy to pinpoint. He wants the world to change. He needs it to give way for people like himself. He wants the marginalized to have their chance in the sun and no longer be pushed down and throttled by a system that only rewards the rich and privileged. Erik believes in this cause with a conviction that does not bow, does not bend, does not break. And even though it is certainly a little twisted due to the amount of personal loss and suffering he has gone through, Erik will still hold to this ideal. That all men are made equal and all men should be treated as such. And even if his way did not work, the way of the conqueror, he will keep trying until the world starts over. It doesn't matter where he is or where he goes. He believes and he’ll change the world with his belief, one step at a time.
Master Martial Artist: Due to his life long rigorous training as a SEAL and Black Ops mercenary, Erik was an extremely strong and skilled martial arts master, one of the most dangerous fighters on the planet. Erik's skill was great enough that in their first duel, in which both of them had no superhuman physical abilities, he was able to compete with T'Challa, a world-class trained and proficient combatant whose skill rivaled that of the Winter Soldier's, and even ultimately defeat him, although his victory was aided due to the fact T'Challa was currently conflicted from the recent knowledge of his father's misdeeds and unwillingness to deliver a fatal blow. After drinking the Heart Shaped Herb, Erik became even more formidable due to gaining superhuman physical powers, to the point that while wearing the upgraded Panther Habit, he could quickly overpower many members of Dora Milaje and Nakia and stalemate T'Challa wearing his Black Panther Habit, only barely being beaten due to T'Challa exposing his suit's exposed part to deliver a fatal blow. Master Swordsman: Killmonger was able to wield Wakandan swords and similar bladed weapons with great skill. His skill with a sword allowed him to go up against T'Challa in their duel for the throne and even beat him and later easily defeat many members of Dora Milaje and Nakia by himself. Expert Marksman: As a former American black-ops mercenary, Killmonger was incredibly accurate with firearms. He was able to wield both high caliber assault rifles, as well as handguns with great accuracy. Master Tactician: Killmonger was a masterful strategist, able to formulate and execute highly strategic plans. Killmonger was able to find a Wakandan weapon made of vibranium within the Museum of Great Britain and, with his group, helped Klaue steal the weapon. When T'Challa finally managed to capture Klaue after thirty years of pursuit, Killmonger and his group were able to strategically save him. Master Assassin: Due to his intensive experience as a Navy SEAL and mercenary in an American Black Ops Ghost unit, Killmonger is highly skilled in assassination techniques, as well as espionage, intelligence gathering, infiltration, and sabotage. He gained the nickname "Killmonger" due to his substantial kill-count which, according to Everett Ross, he “racked up like a video game”. Master Acrobat: Upon acquiring the powers of the Heart Shaped Herb, Erik's immensely enhanced agility made him an extraordinary gymnast and acrobat, which allowed him to combat Black Panther on equal grounds. Multilingual: Killmonger speaks his native English, and was taught to speak Xhosa by his father.
