[ his hands were one of the few places erik didn't scar. mostly because it would have made his line of work difficult, but because the kill scars aren't designed for delicate nerves near the hand.

he thinks about this now because all erik remembers for most of his life is remembered pain and nothing else. ]

[ The skin on Erik's hands is smooth, and Jim runs his thumb across the back in a slow and gentle touch. He doesn't mind the scars on Erik's torso and arms at all, in fact he finds them fascinating-- not that he's asked what they are or what they mean, but he has a feeling it might be something Erik wouldn't be so keen on talking about.

But the contrast is nice. Something rough that goes hand in hand with something soft. Maybe Erik might be quick to say that he can't be both, but Jim is of a different opinion. ]

[scarcastically]

[ erik nudges him with his foot. ]

You're thinking somethin' sappy.

[winscenario]

[ His smile turns a little sheepish, and he ducks his head only briefly. Then he shrugs. ]

What if I am? Is that such a bad thing?

[ Glancing at Erik, ] Do you want to know what I'm thinking?

[scarcastically]

I'm not a mind-reader.

[ he waggles his eyebrows. ]

I just know a sappy expression when I see one.

[winscenario]

I don't know, I'm not that hard to read.

[ His smile twitches a little at the corner, and he tugs on Erik's hand. ]

I was just thinking you're sweet. With me, anyway. I like it, it makes me feel... good.

[scarcastically]

Yeah?

[ a sly smirk. ]

I ain't against that.

[winscenario]

You better not be. It's all your doing.

[ Well, not all, but he's just teasing. Leaning in before Erik can stop him, he presses a quick kiss to his lips, still keeping his hand sequestered in a firm hold. ]

[scarcastically]

[ erik shakes his head, amused, as he responds to the kiss slowly. ]

[winscenario]

[ See, he is sweet, Jim is so right. He smiles against Erik's lips, cupping his face with his free hand, stealing a few more little pecks before he pulls away again. ]

[scarcastically]

[ erik will deny it to his dying day. ]

Like I said. Sap.

[winscenario]

Yeah, and you like it.

[ Erik is only lying to himself here. ]

[scarcastically]

. . . Guess I do.

[winscenario]

[ Jim does his very best to contain the beaming smile that threatens to stretch across his face. He holds Erik's hand in both his own, pressing his lips in. ]

Can I stay the night?

[ Yes, it's blunt and out of the blue, but well, that's him. ]

[scarcastically]

[ he blinks, surprised. ]

Yeah.

[ he shrugs. ]

You're already here, anyway. Make the most of it.

[winscenario]

[ His smile widens now, and he squeezes Erik's hand. ]

Yes. Something like that. Look at that, I'm already putting your wise advice into practice.

[scarcastically]

Just means you should listen to me more.

[winscenario]

Don't push it, now.

[ He pinches Erik's nose lightly. ]

[scarcastically]

Why not?

[ he swats it with a smile. ]

Seems like you can take it.

[winscenario]

[ Jim laughs, pulling his hand back. ]

You'd know, wouldn't you? Terrible.

[scarcastically]

I'm a good guesser.

[ while erik himself has trouble reconciling positive memories and emotions with himself, he's not so dense as to not grasp the human condition well. he had to be. ]

[winscenario]

[ It's not guessing so much as careful observation, and Erik's perceptive, Jim can tell that much. Jim's a pretty genuine person too, though, so it's not like he hides a lot of secrets, especially not from people he likes.

He downs the rest of his drink, then gets to his feet, tugging Erik along. ] Come on.

[scarcastically]

[ erik raises an eyebrow, but follows along. ]

Ready to hit the sheets?

[winscenario]

Yeah. I mean, we can keep talking in bed, if you want.

[ He caps the bottle again and leaves the glasses to clean later, then takes the lead and guides them both to Erik's room. He hasn't really brought pajamas with him so he just dresses down to his boxer briefs and t-shirt, since the room isn't that cold and Erik's warm to curl up against, anyway. ]

[scarcastically]

Sounds good to me. Conversation works anywhere.

[ he glances at jim. ]

But you do look beat. Not used to running your mind in circles.
